There are so many questions surrounding what is the best formula for you to achieve your health and fitness goals. My belief is you that for you to achieve your goals, you should look at following a 3 step formula.
Step 1 – Get started
So often we put off exercise or eating healthy because we feel we need to wait and do the research first. Understandably research is important and will help you choose the right plan for you. However, it is not an excuse for not starting today! There is no reason you can’t cut out junk food and start walking/jogging etc until you find the plan that is right for you.
‘don’t put off until tomorrow what can be done today’ – Benjamin Franklin
Step 2 – Get a good plan
I am convinced that almost every ‘legitimate’ plan out there will help you achieve your goals. It is more or less finding a plan that you believe you can stick too and something that is aligned with your beliefs around food and exercise. In general, the more specialised rather than generalised the better. We are all different and if you’ve got something that has been modified for you as an individual you will see a much better result. As far as who to see for your plans that is up to you and the money you have available. There is plenty of free information available on the internet but if you are going to pay someone you might want to see a Naturopath for your nutrition to take a wholistic approach, and for your exercise I would suggest a Strength and Conditioning Coach or someone that is trained in screening you properly initially combined with a scientific approach to training.
Step 3 – Refining your plan
Rarely is a plan perfect or at least forever perfect. Your lifestyle will change over the years which will invariably have an effect what your body needs. The more in tune with your body you are, you can make a lot of these training and dietary changes yourself. Otherwise keep in contact with your a specialist to get their help in refining your plan to your needs. Your health and fitness are a lifetime journey and should be something that is enjoyable and freeing. When exercise is a chore and when you feel like your diet makes you ‘miss out’, you’ll forever see a yo-yo effect with your commitment and results.
Enjoy doing what you do, live a life you enjoy!
